Selvage Quilt Update
This as far as I’ve got since last time—just settling on a layout and starting to place them on the wall. I’m going with the chevron pattern.
Next up is sewing them together. I’m thinking of joining them in groups of six (2 rows x 3 columns of units).
Cartoony Cats
It was a case of wanting to do something, but not knowing what. (As usual.) I’d opened but not yet played a new YouTube video by Terry Runyan, and the title was something about cats, so I took my inspiration from that.
I ended up with some kind of strange poses, but I was just looking to fill the page… The remaining blank space was calling out for more, so some mice came along, too.
When it was dry, I went back to add some watercolor details… And when those dried, it was time for ink pen.
Just a little fun!
What to Doodle?
This has become my constant conundrum, every time I sit down to “do something”, lately. I do have some sources to refer to for inspiration, but sometimes you just want to sit down and start.
After the cats, I knew I wanted something that would be “doodle first, paint later”—but still didn’t have anything set beforehand as a good subject. I don’t remember why, but I settled on “vessels” for a start, then expanded it to include teacups, mugs, and essentially anything that could be pottery, ceramic, etc. and roughly fit the theme.
I used the Duke 600 for all the doodling (as I did for the cats, by the way). This was a lot of fun to draw while listening to an audiobook:
I still had the Koh-i-Noor Brilliant Watercolours (Anilinky paints) out on my table, and I thought they would lend themselves well to something like this.
I started with the hot pink in the upper lefthand corner, and a color palette for the page formed in my mind. Pinks, reds, oranges, and yellow. I think I probably only used about five colors of paint, but by watering them down to different levels, you can easily get two or three tints from a single color, so it looks like more variety. And then there’s the option of mixing them together, too.
This was a very carefree and fun page both to doodle and to paint. I’ll be doing that again, at some point!
Last Page in the Sketchbook
I reached the last page in that sketchbook and just wanted to do something to finish it off.
I’d seen something vaguely like this in a video earlier that evening, so that popped into my head. Quick and easy, so it fit the bill.
I chose a few colors that I thought would go together nicely, then painted my collection of stones.
After they dried, I went back over them with doodles in ink, white paint pen, and a couple metallic color pencils (gold and silver).
And that was that! Nothing particularly special, but I do like the colors together, and now the book is full.
