New Quilt Project

Low Volume Selvage Quilt

I decided it was time to start a new quilt project.  I haven’t done much sewing in a while, after losing momentum on a string quilt.  Treadling the string blocks was the fun part, and with that over, it was time to think, make decisions, and do the less-fun part.  No wonder it’s just been sitting there for months!

Eventually, I’ll get back to work on that old project (not to mention all the quilt tops that need quilting), but for now, I just wanted something new to work on.  Another selvage quilt felt like it might be fun.  I have what feels like a lot of white and lower volume selvages, and in my mind’s eye that would be pleasantly cool and summery-looking.  Will it look cool and summer in real life?  Who knows—but I bet it’ll be nice in its own way.

When I pulled out the selvages, I realized that maybe they’re not quite as low-volume as I remembered.  It’ll all work out, even if it’s darker than I pictured.

I think I made one last night and another six or so today.  I’ve worked out how many I’ll need, but I can’t remember off the top of my head… We’ll see if there are enough selvages in the stash to reach that goal.  If not, there are always borders to bring it up to size.

It’s a different way of sewing, but I think I’m more or less back in the groove with it, again.

Updates will follow.  I foresee this taking a while!

More Neon Pencil with Watercolor

I wanted to try the neon color pencil with darker watercolor—or at least different colors.  As it turned out, the watercolor still isn’t all that dark, but it’s a start.

I do like the way the neon pencil looks against the darker blues and greens.

Oh Deer!

Up early one morning this week, I went to check the mail and saw a couple of deer in the distance, up the easement.  Between the low light and the distance, my phone’s camera didn’t do a great job, but maybe if you squint…

The one on the driveway is easy enough to see, but there’s another one on the lefthand side.

I keep seeing rabbits in the yard at night, too, when I’m giving Luna her last walk of the night.

I don’t know what this has to do with anything else, but there it is.  (It’s too late to be writing!)

Welcome!

I’m Michael (a female Michael, to remove any doubt).  I live on the Alabama Gulf Coast with my husband, Donald, and our crazy American Eskimo Dogs.

I love to fill my spare time with various crafts and other hobbies, and this blog is where I share photos, record my progress, and ramble endlessly.
