Inktober Day 2: "Weave"
The second prompt on the list for Inktober was “weave”. I had a few ideas for how to incorporate that into my overarching goal of “doodling dogs”. First, dogs wearing woven sweaters/dog jackets. Second, a puppy in a woven basket. Third, a dog weaving through those poles that they use in agility courses. Or just a woven texture pattern with dogs poking out here and there—but that felt too complicated (and a little weird).
In the end, I just filled the page with doodles that are kinda-sorta on-theme. There are several dogs wearing sweaters (that are supposed to look woven), as well as a dog in a basket and a dog doing the weaving poles (whatever they’re actually called).
I tried a new-to-me ink—Noodler’s Lexington Gray (Bulletproof). I’d read a lot of reviews, and it has a reputation for being more waterproof than the Bulletproof Black. However, some people did say that it tends to feather, and I think I’ve seen that today. I do like the color well enough. It’s not super soft, but it’s less stark than the black. I’m a bit disappointed with the feathering, but if you aren’t drawing on too small a scale, it’s less of an issue.
After letting it sit for a while, I thought maybe I’d like it more if I added some color, but I didn’t want to use color pencils again, so I opted for a few markers:
Hm. I didn’t love my results for this day, but I’m sticking with it.
Pumpkins (Again)
I used the same ink to doodle over one of the pumpkin painting starts I shared yesterday. I do like the grey ink, though I think it still feathered on this watercolor paper.
(I was also using a different kind of pen. It’s not a fude nib pen, this time. Instead, it’s a TWSBI GO pen with an extra-fine nib.)
After finishing with the lines on the pumpkins, I decided to add a few animals in the gaps. To change things up from the black cats in the last pumpkin patch doodle, I opted for white cats and a white mouse:
Hoping to keep this daily posting thing going for a while, so with any luck I’ll be back again tomorrow!
