Inktober Day 31: "Award"
Yesterday was the last day of Inktober!
With the prompt “award”, this is what came to mind:
And that brings the challenge to an end!
I’m glad it’s done, but looking back over the past month, I do think the Inktober challenge helped me not worry so much about whether or not each doodle was “good”. It made me more comfortable with just jumping in and drawing something.
I’m glad I tried it, even though I’m also ready to leave it behind for now.
Inky Doodles: Endless Potted Plants
I hadn’t doodled with the pink ink in a while, and because it’s a pigment ink, it seemed like a good idea to get that pen flowing again, to avoid blockages.
I was in the mood to doodle something fun and simple, so I returned to one of my old favorites—potted plants!
This is some very old watercolor paper that I’m using up—some Donald brought with his things when he moved from Sweden. That’s 24 years ago, now, and I have no idea how long he’d already owned it before the move! It’s still working okay, for the most part, but there are some sizing issues in a few spots. It just makes the watercolor behave a little unpredictably, but it’s not really a big problem for a doodle page like this.
I added watercolor washes in a very limited palette. The whole process required just enough concentration to be relaxing and fun.
The pink ink continues to be a pleasure to use, and I never seem to get tired of drawing potted plants.
Inky Doodles: Hello, Autumn!
I don’t think I’ve mentioned it here, but fall seems to have finally truly arrived on the Gulf Coast! It’s been nearly chilly for a day or two, especially at night. I’ve almost forgotten the heat and humidity of summer, already! Such a pleasure to sit outside without (as many) bugs, enjoying the cool air. I’ve brought my favorite around-the-yard jacket out of the coat closet and been getting some use out of a couple of handknit items (hat and cowl). It’s even cool enough to wear a fleecy robe and pajama pants in the morning! I think it’ll warm up slightly again, but not too much.
Anyway, the point of all that was that when I finished doodling the potted plants, I decided to switch to the brown ink and doodle a few rows of autumnal motifs.
Then I went back and tinted them with watercolor:
Simple, but fun to do.
