Fond Farewell to October

After finishing up all the October “work-work”, I was able to just be lazy on Halloween.  I spent some of the day listening to an audiobook and just playing around with paper and art supplies, which is always a good way to pass some time!

Now we’re into November, with a whole new month of work assignments and other plans—but before I turn the page on the calendar, I have a few more October-ish things to post.  (And more to come later, because there’s still that Halloween-fabric table runner waiting to be finished, sometime.)

Last Watercolor Doodles of the Month...

This first one isn’t actually autumnal at all, but why not throw it in with the rest?

Autumn wreath with a bird—water-soluble crayon, marker, and dip-pen and ink:

One more stack of doodled pumpkins…

…some jack- o’-lanterns…

I think the most fun I had out of this last batch of “things” was making a pumpkin patch from scraps of paper.  I started with gel prints, doodles, watercolor on book pages, and so on.  Cut out a bunch of pumpkin shapes, arranged them on a sheet of kraft paper, glued them down.  Added leaves, stalks, and a black cat in more paper.  Finally went back over parts with white gouache and black ink pen to outline the paper shapes and add both vines and little fireflies.

I debated adding vertical lines to the pumpkins to make them look more like pumpkins and less like giant apples and other such things, but so many of them were already so busy that I wasn’t sure it would look right… I could still go back over a few of them, but it was just for fun, so doesn’t really matter one way or the other.  The main thing is that it was a lot of fun to make!

I hope you all had a fun October—and Luna and Frodo wanted to wish you a belated happy howl-o-ween!

Welcome!

I’m Michael (a female Michael, to remove any doubt).  I live on the Alabama Gulf Coast with my husband, Donald, and our crazy American Eskimo Dogs.

I love to fill my spare time with various crafts and other hobbies, and this blog is where I share photos, record my progress, and ramble endlessly.
