Artober 3rd Project
Last night, I wrote that maybe I would try to clean my ceramic palette with today’s project. It had the leftovers of the watercolor paint I used to tint the “creepy” gallery wall, so lots of muted colors—along with a few dots of bright blue left over from something much further back.
Here’s a photo to refresh your memory:
I decided to paint beetle-shaped blobs.
As often happens when I do something like this, the paint ended up getting thinner and thinner as I worked my way down the page and tried to eke out every last bit of color from the palette. I add a tiny bit of water here and there to stretch it out, and by the bottom of the page, the colors are much fainter (and often even more muted as I mix whatever’s left together). I could try to jump around the page while I paint to distribute the more saturated paint more evenly, but for something like this that’s just for fun, I didn’t worry about it.
Here are the blobs:
After it dried, I went back over the page with a black ink pen and added the details.
I’m not a big fan of bugs, to be honest, but this was still a fun project. Low-stress, entertaining, and it did indeed use up all the paint on the palette, so it’s ready to wash and start fresh next time.
