3MC, Day 11

3 Materials Challenge: Day 11

I think trying to choose a subject may be the hardest part of this challenge.  (Aside from frustration over the results!)

I looked back through some photos on my phone to find something I could feel vaguely enthusiastic about sketching.  I finally settled on a photo of my youngest sister’s Sheltie, Barney.  Apologies for my rather goofy-looking doodle portrait!  Drawing a dog’s mouth, especially from the front like this, is tricky!  I need to practice, preferably with pencil where I can erase and more easily adjust.

The three materials I used today included two Ohuhu double-tipped markers (brush and fineliner nibs)—one in bluish purple and the other in orange.  I had planned to use a red Gel FX Crayola for my third material, but I realized too late that I’d made one area purple that should’ve been white (not that it’s very precise or accurate, anyway).  I opted for a white acrylic paint pen instead of the crayon, but it didn’t cover perfectly.  The purple underneath turned it a pinky-purple tone.  I probably should’ve left it as it was—a lesson for next time.  At least I tried!

Silly-looking mouth aside, it’s not the worst thing I ever doodled.  It’ll have to do, in any case, because I am done with this for the day.  This challenge is starting to feel like a chore.

Welcome!

I’m Michael (a female Michael, to remove any doubt).  I live on the Alabama Gulf Coast with my husband, Donald, and our crazy American Eskimo Dogs.

I love to fill my spare time with various crafts and other hobbies, and this blog is where I share photos, record my progress, and ramble endlessly.
